So here's a run-down of the last part of last week:
Wednesday
Took Jacqueline into the doctor and she ended up having sinusitis (baby version of sinus infection).
Wednesday night Asher had a night terror and woke up. When he used the restroom Rob noticed that Asher's urine was bright red. I looked up medical information online and determined that we could wait until morning to take him into the doctor. Rob settled Asher back in bed and Asher quickly fell asleep. Us? Not so quickly.
Thursday
Took Asher into the doctor where they took 3 vials of blood and asked for a urine sample, Asher hated all of this. Fortunately Rob took off medical time from work to come help at the doctor's office. They found blood and protein in his urine. Could be as minor as a fluke or kidney stone or as serious as kidney disease, but they wouldn't know anything until results came back in a few days.
Friday
While making lunch downstairs I heard a strange sound upstairs and Asher and Jacqueline's cries of distress. When I arrived on the scene I see my two beautiful children face down, under a heavy chest of drawers. After pulling it off of them both children almost immediately stopped crying so I determined that there was little chance that something was broken but checked them out to the best of my abilities. After yesterday's events with Asher my nerves are a bit frazzled and I had a momentary breakdown. Quickly pulling myself back together I thanked God that my children seemed to be okay. Asher had climbed his chest of drawers to put a penny in his piggy bank (which was on top). The chest of drawers had fallen at an angle creating a triangle shape with Jacqueline in the smallest part and Asher in the larger area so they didn't have the full weight of it on them. Since they were both face forward towards the carpet their backs (mostly Asher's) had protected them from any major facial injuries. Jacqueline ended up with a slight bruise on her check, that was all thankfully.
I tried calling Rob literally 20 times on his personal and work numbers but couldn't get a hold of him because he was exercising during his lunch break. I even tried calling his boss, but his boss ended up being out of the office that day. I haven't come so close to swearing as at that moment. I was so upset with Rob for not being reachable!
After returning downstairs I wanted to give the kids some medicine for any possible swelling but remembered that we still didn't know what was going on with Asher's kidney's and that people with kidney problems are not supposed to take ibprofen, causing me to wonder if I should give him anything at all. I thought, "We'll eat lunch, I'll get the kids down for naps, and then I'll call the doctor". We started eating lunch and Asher rubbed his eye and all of a sudden his eye starts puffing and tearing up. Thinking back I remembered that he had played with a dog toy that morning at a playgroup and because of the chest of drawers fall I forgot to have him wash his hands before lunch, Asher is allergic to dogs. Really? Is this happening? Just then his doctor calls to find out how Asher is doing and I semi-hysterically told her everything that had occurred in the last 20 minutes. She suggests that I bring the kids in which I agreed to do in an hour or so. Jacqueline at this point was excessively tired since it is past her nap time and I knew that the examination would go much better if she had some sleep. While Asher ate I ran Jacqueline up to bed and after hurried Asher through lunch and upstairs to the bathtub and we washef away the dog dander. While Jacqueline slept I checked on her every 10 minutes to make sure she was still breathing.
In the meantime Rob had received several of my messages and rushed home in time to accompany us to do the doctor's office. We have now visited the doctor's office three days in a row. Both kids fortunately checked out fine. Afterwards we went to Lowe's where we found furniture straps and installed two on Asher's chest of drawers.
Wrap Up
And what about Asher and his kidney's? He ended up having an ultrasound done and it came back normal. So, for now they categorizing it as some sort of familial kidney fluke and we are hoping it doesn't happen again.
What a week! It's one I don't care to ever repeat.
