With a quick glance do you pick up on the theme? Don't worry if you do not, most people are confused by the mess on Rob's shirt. So I will explain who we are. Asher is obviously a fireman, I am a firetruck, Rob a tree, and Jacqueline is a kitty cat "stuck" in the tree.
My mom came out to visit a week or two before our ward's trunk or treat and found a fireman costume for Asher that he LOVES. She also treated us to the pajamas that I used for Jacqueline's costume. Okay, so we had the fireman and cat, what could Rob and I be? Inspiration hit and my Mom and I thought of the firetruck and tree. I had been a little bit busy (aren't we all) and made the firetruck the morning of our ward's trunk or treat out of a bunch of scrap felt someone gave me.
3 hours before the event I started on Rob's "tree" shirt. "I have some twigs" I thought, "that will look great"! So I happily slopped on the glue and twigs, snapping them in the arm area so that Rob could bend his arms, cut out some leaves from more felt and glued those on as well. Rob came home, we got ready to leave, Rob goes to put on the shirt and we find a few problems: 1) I hadn't snapped the branches up front so it was like he was putting on a stiff board with twigs that were trying to poke his eyes out, 2) the branches on the sleeves were too long and he couldn't bend his wrist, 3) The glue wasn't dry and was still sticky on the inside, 4) Then, when he actually gets it on, I couldn't stop laughing because the whole thing looked so ugly! It's a good thing I made awesome costumes for him the past 3 years (pirate, ninja, knight) or I doubt he would have worn it the whole night (which he did). On the way home, he mentioned that he thought that I would make the branches out of felt. Too bad I didn't think of using the brown felt I had. Oh well.
Happy Halloween!
