Day 8 - Monday

Well, Rob and I are on our own for a week. This morning Dad Hinman dropped us off at the train station in Geneva for our 3-hour ride to Paris.
The only confusing thing about the whole day was putting together our metro pass for the week as the instructions were in French. A nice man at one of the counters ended putting them together for Rob and I. These passes are great! For one week (Monday through Sunday) you can swipe the cards at entrances and not have to worry about paying for individual tickets. With all of the wandering we did around Paris it definetly saved us headaches, time and money.
After checking into our hotel we headed to the Effiel Tower, our only planned activity (besides picking up museum passes) for the day. We decided in advance that we were not going to rush any of the sights, but take it in at a leisurely pace.
First view of the Effiel Tower

There were sooo many people at the Effiel Tower! We didn't know this in advance, but the week after Christmas is one of their busiest times of the year. We were in line for two freezing hours, but it ended up being worth it. Just look at all of the people.

The construction of the tower itself is pretty amazing. Here is a view looking up at the belly.

Rob and I on the second level

One view. Notice how small the buildings look.

Time to go up to the top. The elevator is very smooth, but I was nervous nonetheless. Now notice how small the buildings are. The circle object is the Arch de Triomphe. The view is spectacular, I will never forget it.

Us again

After the Effiel Tower visit we walked across the street to a Christmas marche (market) and looked at vendors wares. We found a crepe shop and enjoyed the warm food.

As we were leaving the area to return to the hotel the Effiel Tower lit up

I'd say this was a pretty good first day in Paris.
