Williamsburg

This is a "little" late in coming, but back in March Rob and I took our first non-family-visiting trip since we were maried and went to Colonial Williamsburg, VA for two days. Williamsburg is set up to recreate the years immediatly prior to the Revolutionary War with actual tradesmen/woman working in shops, in time-period character.
I have been there twice before, but this was Rob's first time and boy did he live it up! Probably my favorite two parts involve Rob interacting with the actors. The first is when he walked in the postoffice and said (quite loudly), "Excuse me madame, do I have any mail?", and the post-misstresses response was immediate, "No sir. If you did have any it would be posted on the message board outside, with the amount listed that you owe".
Half an hour later Rob asks me what an apothecary is, right before we walk into that store. After finding out that it is a doctor of sorts, he walk in, doubles up and says in a strained voice, "Help me, I'm dying! My stomach hurts and I don't know what I need!", and again the lady here replies without missing a beat, "Sir, if you were really dying you wouldn't be in here and would have sent for a doctor".
Picture of the apothecary shop:

It was a gray and rainy day which made for less crowds. Here are some pictures from the trip.

Rob forced me to put this one in since we have so many pictures of him:

Barrel maker:

Rob in the stocks:

Printer's Shop. This guy was very entertaining!

Fife and Drum March through the streets of Williamsburg:

50ish years ago my Grandpa Jordan worked in the bookbinder's shop, which is pictured below. This one's for you Grandpa!

From the stocks to gaol (jail):

Rob thought this was pretty cool and wanted to jump in there and try his hand at blacksmithing:

We learned a lot about the history of this country and how people did things in the good 'ol days (I am grateful for modern conveniences/tools!), had a lot of fun, and can't wait to go back again!
