Butterfly Release

Butterflies in October? Yup. I purchased the butterfly kit back in June but didn't take the time to order the caterpillars until I saw a friend's blog post about the butterflies they had raised. "Oh yeah," I thought, "I have one of those. I hope they still ship them in September." We did receive them before the shipping cut off date and my last hope was that the weather would stay warm enough for a chance of survival upon release. My silent prayer was answered and the butterflies probably even had enough time to migrate south before the weather turned cold.

It was really neat watching the tiny caterpillars that arrived grow, crawl up to the top of the cage and form cocoons. After a week and a half or so later our 5 beautiful butterflies emerged with a squirt of red liquid. We kept them for about 4 days before releasing them outside.

Bye bye butterflies! Enjoy your flight to some where warm. We enjoyed having you visit.
